Description: The Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val Kill presents the Girls’ Leadership Workshop (GLW). Each summer the GLW programs to educate, empower, and activate adolescent girls to become the next generation of social justice leaders. The primary objective of the GLW is to create a more just world by preparing young women for future positions of personal, political, and professional leadership, using the example set by Eleanor Roosevelt.At Val-Kill, Mrs. Roosevelt’s country home and retreat in Hyde Park, New York, high school girls celebrate the life and legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, develop their leadership skills, and strengthen their commitment and confidence to make a difference in their communities. With Eleanor Roosevelt as a role model, the Girls’ Leadership Workshop helps girls believe in themselves and achieve their dreams. Deadline for 2010 session applications: February 8, 2010. Description: On Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. the National Park Service will hold a Rose Garden Ceremony to commemorate Franklin Roosevelt’s Birthday. Following the ceremony, the FDR Presidential Library will invite attendees to return to the Wallace Center for birthday cake and refreshments free of charge.

Description: The FDR Presidential Library’s holiday decorations this year are based
on Christmas 1943, the first time after his 1933 inaugural that
President Roosevelt and his family returned to Hyde Park to celebrate
the holiday. A large, decorated tree in the Library lobby and
decorations in FDR’s Study are based on family photographs from the
period.
